This website serves as a personal blog, and hosts various bits of my software, technical writing, general essays, and political articles.
Scroll down for a summary, and to find out what a mysterious utility wizard is.
The blog includes articles and essays on various subjects, and links highlighting new sections as they are added to the rest of the site.
Computers Bit
My work is programming computers and training people in their use, and here you'll find some of my software and technical writing. It includes training courses in HTML & CSS, and the lovable but little known Pick-like/Multivalued Universe DBMS.
Nations Bit
Pages mostly making fun of nationalism: a superstition irrationally treasured by both left and right. Includes the wildly over-engineered satire of the Republic of Mania, the website of the Ministry of Undisclosable Purpose, and an introduction to Lingow, the world's least spoken language.
Papers Bit
Various articles published by socialist papers, including the Weekly Worker and Red Star.
In buiding this website, I wrote a number of programs which I thought might be of use to other developers, and collected these together into a free, open source package called UnderWeb. This allows anyone, using only a text editor, to create a site with multi-level menus, and a choice of 'styles', so that at any time, their visitors can change the layout and look of the site while still reading the same content.
This is a Mysterious Utility Wizard.
The Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard is a mid-size, five-door, "sports utility vehicle", about which it is entirely impossible to feel anything. However, I am forever thankful the anonymous Japanese marketer who had the peculiar but necessary mix of genuine soul, and attentuated English, to give it this wonderfully bizarre and evocative title.
As the car itself is no longer in production, rather than let this three word poem die, I have adopted it as my superhero name.
So stand back, citizen. This is a job for the Mysterious Utility Wizard.
